U.S says No to right wing brain washed Japanese politicians

Japanese lawmakers and diplomats tried to remove memorial monument dedicated to thousands of Asian women forced to serve Japanese army during WW2 but NJ city council says they're simply telling the truth and remembering Japanese past war crimes that entire world knows... Japanese diplomats and lawmakers says Koreans are lying and wanting to correct the distorted history. WTF? What distortion they're referring to? Japanese are surely one of the most brain washed people on earth to think there was no comfort women when it's well documented fact. Oh yeah, no Nanjing massacre and no human testing - who's distorting history?

Japanese MPs Object to Comfort Women Monument in U.S.

Four Japanese lawmakers have demanded the removal of a monument in the U.S. dedicated to the thousands of Asian women used as sex slaves by the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II.

They met the mayor of Palisades Park in New Jersey on Monday and insisted the monument plaque contains "unconfirmed" information such as the number of so-called comfort women. They claimed the Japanese government played no part in the rounding-up of women during the war.

The city, however, declined the request, saying the information on the plaque is based on historic fact and concrete data. The city erected the memorial in front of a public library in 2010.

Japan has urged a U.S. city to tear down a memorial dedicated to women forced into sexual slavery by Japanese troops before and during World War II.
Hiroshi Shigeyuki, a Japanese consul general in New York, visited the city of Palisades Park in New Jersey, offering to help various city projects in return for the removal of the first U.S. memorial for the hundreds of thousands of Asian women who were forced to work as so-called 'comfort women' to Japanese soldiers.
The city officials, however, rejected the offer, saying the memorial helps educate people about the devastating effects of war and human right violations.

Three South Korean lawmakers on Wednesday placed bouquets of white chrysanthemums near a stone monument in Palisades Park dedicated to more than 200,000 Asians — known as “comfort women” — who were reportedly forced into sexual slavery by Japanese soldiers before and during World War II.

They had earlier heard Palisades Park Mayor James Rotundo promise them that the monument wouldn’t be removed — even though members of the Japanese national legislature had asked the town to remove it because of what they call inaccuracies in its portrayal. .

Rotundo, surrounded by at least a dozen South Korean reporters and cameramen, told his guests in front of the borough’s library that the Japanese wanted to intimidate the town. “And we are not,” he said. Earlier, the mayor said, “Maybe they are on a mission to change history.”

Rotundo said town officials met four Japanese legislators for three hours last Sunday and disputed the number of comfort women — many of them Korean and Chinese — and said they willingly served the soldiers. They wanted the monument removed, the mayor said.

That session came days after Shigeyuki Hiroki, Japan’s consulate general in New York, met with Rotundo. The mayor said he was told that Japanese officials were interested in funding local youth programs and donating books on Japanese culture to the library — if the monument were removed. Two others at the meeting — Deputy Mayor Jason Kim and town Clerk Martin Gobbo — also said the offer was made.

But in an email sent to The Record Wednesday, Hiroki’s office said he made no such offer. The email, however, confirmed both meetings took place, but provided few details on what was discussed.

“Ambassador Shigeyuke Hiroki met with [the] mayor of Palisades Park on May 1, and explained about the position of the Japanese government relating to the issue of comfort women, and requested for his understanding and necessary adjustment which would facilitate smooth exchanges between the communities,” the email stated.

The ambassador declined to explain what was meant by “necessary adjustment.” However, the email seemed to distance the official consulate position with those that Rotundo said the four lawmakers expressed — saying the Japanese government has apologized to the women on many occasions and even set up a fund in 1995 for those women still alive.

It was in October 2010 that the monument with a copper plaque depicting a soldier and a cowering woman was erected, mostly at the encouragement of local artist Steven Cavallo, the Korean American Voters Council, Rotundo and Kim, who is Korean-American. It is the only known tribute in the United States to the comfort women. A monument was erected in Seoul, Korea, in front of the Japanese Embassy last year.

Bergen County’s freeholders donated the stone for the monument, and then-Executive Dennis McNerney called the debated World War II-era episode one of “history’s greatest tragedies.”

Outside the Palisades Park library on Wednesday, Rotundo and Kim told their Korean guests — who were in the United States for three days — that the monument was not meant to blame the current Japanese government, but that it was an education tool to teach younger generations about the tragedies of war.

“This is an issue against women; this kind of atrocity of rape and abduction shouldn’t happen anymore,” said Kim, the first Korean-American to be elected to a council seat in the state. “If we don’t learn from the past history and correct this, it will happen again, and that scares me. That is what drives me to have this monument and tell the whole world why we should have this monument.”

One of the South Korean congressmen, Jang Byeong Wan, said they visited Palisades Park “to show appreciation for having the monument here.”

“You can only learn from the history,” he said through Kim, who served as a translator.

Last December, two Korean comfort women visited the monument and answered questions at the Palisades Park library about their stories of rape that they said lasted for several years. They are among a handful of comfort women who reside in Korea and protest every week in front of the Japanese Embassy asking for a formal apology from the government.

In 1993, the Japanese government accepted the role of its military in setting up brothels, and a declaration known as the “Kono Statement” offered an apology. But many, including the surviving comfort women, didn’t accept the statement because it was issued by a cabinet secretary, not by Parliament.

In 2007, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a non-binding resolution urging Japan to acknowledge and apologize for its wartime sex slavery.

But in recent years, members of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party have said there is no evidence that the military kidnapped women and forced them into sex slavery. The four legislators who visited Palisades Park are members of that party.

A number of interviews, historical accounts, testimonials, and books on the comfort women have been published and can easily be found on the Internet. Dai Sil Kim-Gibson, who attended Wednesday’s gathering at the library, produced a documentary and wrote a book in 1998 called “Silence Broken: Korean Comfort Women” She said she interviewed roughly about 50 women in South Korea, China and in Japan.

Her interest began when she was living in Washington, where she was asked to translate for a comfort woman who was going to speak at a Korean Methodist Church.

“I was probably 10 years younger [than the woman] and she said to me, ‘Could you imagine what it was like to have 30, 40 soldiers on top of you every day when you were born and raised in the culture where chastity was more precious than life itself?’,” said Kim-Gibson, who lives in New York. “Can you imagine?”

She said when she heard of the four Japanese officials’ request she was filled with rage.

Since Sunday’s meeting, Rotundo, Kim, Cavallo and Gobbo have fielded calls from the media and others interested in hearing about the meeting.

Peter Koo, a New York City councilman, also contacted the municipality because he’s interested in erecting a similar monument in Flushing, a spokesperson said Wednesday.

James McClelland said the councilman has received several angry letters from Japanese, at least one calling the comfort women prostitutes.

Palisades Park Library Director Susan Kuman said she has received about 30 similar letters since the monument was erected.

“I know a lot of people want to deny history, but it has to be revealed to move beyond it,” she said.

Palisades Park is home to a growing number of Koreans. According to the 2010 census, 51.5 percent of its 19,622 residents are Korean. May is also Asian-Pacific Heritage Month.

City Councilman Peter Koo’s proposal to honor Asian women used as sex slaves by Japanese soldiers in World War II is sparking outrage from across the globe.

Koo and his City Council colleagues have received a flood of angry emails and letters from Japanese citizens who said the so-called “comfort women” were willing prostitutes and should not be the subject of a memorial in his Flushing, Queens, district.

Comfort women remain a flashpoint: Many historians say Asian females were forced to perform sex favors for Japanese soldiers, while many supporters of Japan contend they were willing participants.

A spokesman for the Japanese embassy, Deputy Chief of Mission Yasuhisa Kawamura, said the government has officially extended apologies for its treatment of the women.

Meanwhile, a group of Japanese elected officials traveled to Palisades Park, N.J., earlier this week in an effort to convince borough leaders to remove its memorial to the comfort women, constructed in 2010.

“We told them it’s not going to happen,” said Mayor James Rotundo.

James McClelland, Koo’s chief of staff, said the councilman is committed to finding a “fitting and respectful way to remember these women” in Queens.

This attempt to deny atrocities will backfire on the Japanese and expose them as rotten denials of atrocities.

I think Korea should use this opportunity to press their case of Japanese distortions about its colonialism in Korea.

Japan believes it was still trying to reunite Asia... by raping asian women and murdering anyone who resisted. They are savages. It's a joke how those idiots who performed such atrocious massacres(and still denies them while Germany doesn't) is trying to lecture other countries about manners and being civilized.

Remember... WW2 was not long ago. Japan deserves everything that is happening to them... at least the older generations for the most part.

This is a spat between Korea and Japan. I wish Koreans stop taking this outside and try to get involve other countries who have no interest in this spat. This fight should stay in Korea and Japan where it belongs.

That's like saying the issue with the holocaust is between the jews(israel) and Germany it should be confined between these two countries.
Sexual slavery can happen to any country and in this case Japan doing it to Koreans. Everybody needs to be aware of this. This is part of the atrocities committed in WWII and a lot of nonKorean blood was spilled in that conflict.

Park Jin Young, CEO of JYP Entertainment was spotted tonight at a room salon located in Palisades Park, New Jersey (We won't reveal the exact location). For those of you who don't know what a room salon is, basically it's a place where you drink and molest girls, so long as you have money.

Sources have informed us that the pimp master had an insane amount of whiskey and hoes all over him.

Maybe that's where he gets his inspiration for the Wonder Girls.

He cited the Jews as a role model that we should follow.

There are always Jews behind all the world’s industries, but they never state in the world market that the products they made are Israeli (이스라엘 것).”

JYP strenuously emphasized, “In US, Japan, and other markets of more than 100 million you can grow in any area, but in a market of 40 million like Korea it’s hard. There are a lot of Jews among the owners of Hollywood and America’s record company presidents. But we should pay attention to the fact that since they’ve removed the taint of nationalism they have been able to obtain a practical hegemony and sell cultural products in the world market.”

JYP got laughs and applause when he said “We penetrated the American cultural product market, and we were 7th in the Olympics, and I’m pretty sure our race (우리 민족) has some special talent.”

(mochi thinking)
‘Learn from the history’yes, its very importance, rationally.

OK,you should build another figure that of prostitutes in NJ,Pang pang japanese or Philippine comfort women for US army.

actually, nobody wants to by herself to be comfort woman or prostitute. maybe you think as a prostitute wants her desire to be it, at her young age or a few times business is easy to make money. but soon she will be regret. since prostitute is just hard work labor, her body made be filled with unknown old man, very disrelish feeling. to save or keep earned money, she must be in gang member, becoming buy and drink drug.

your hand is already dirty too...you should have some right knowledge.
